Volunteer Appreciation Night 2019 is SUSS’ way of thanking alumni and current students for their dedication and contributions to the university.  That evening unfolded with a cosy atmosphere that allowed alumni, students and staff to mingle comfortably amidst a delectable dinner.

Professor Cheong Hee Kiat, President of SUSS, opened the event with some heart-warming remarks, encouraging alumni to never stop learning. Moreover, SUSS, has now teamed up with the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL), it will also be offering courses at their Lifelong Learning Hub.

Ms Evelyn Chong, Director of Office of Student and Alumni Relations, also shared that the theme for the night, ‘Unite 2019!’ was the brainchild of Ms Vanessa Kong, a Communications Student from the School of Humanities and Behavioural Sciences. It embodies many messages: unite symbolises volunteers coming together, and it also reminds us that we are at a “Uni” “nite” (University night) for an evening of fun and friendship.

Altogether, eight awardees were commended for contributing to the SUSS family in the last ten years. When the recipients were asked about what had brought them back year after year, they unanimously cited their friendships fostered here.

“I come back year after year mainly because of the companionship that I have made throughout the years. I would also like to give back to SUSS as an alumna.”

– Ms Lim Bee Ling (Irin), Class of 2008, Bachelor of Science in Business.

 

“I came back because of the meaningful relationships that I have fostered whilst being an alumna as well as being offered the opportunity to spend my time in support of SUSS.”

– Ms Choo Bee Huay, Class of 2008, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Business.

 

“Volunteering has always been something I am passionate about as it engages my mind and heart. For the last 10 years, it has been my pleasure to give back to the University where I have developed a sense of pride and belonging.”

– Ms Oei Chu Leng (Josephine), Class of 2010, Bachelor of Counselling.

The night drew to a close with lots of laughter, chatter and in true volunteer fashion – discussion on the next SUSS event meet-up!
